Large Animal Young Stock Care

Dr. Ridlen can be present at the birth of young animals to make sure that the delivery goes smoothly and according to plan. He can also perform post-natal physical examinations to ensure that the new arrival is healthy and sound and ensure that the naval is properly treated. He can make sure that the colostrum contains adequate levels of antibodies and that the newborn suckles properly. Additionally, at the proper time, Dr. Ridlen can dehorn and brand animals. Dr. Ridlen recommends vaccinations of young calves starting at approximately 2.5 - 3 months of age, when Black Leg vaccine is administered. In addition, when the calf reached 4-12 months, approximately 45 days before weaning, Dr. Ridlen recommends Black Leg again, along with brucellosis vaccination, and a combination vaccine to protect against reproductive, digestive, and respiratory diseases. Deworming is also suggested at the same time.
